This is a big decision deciding to be an owner of an American Pit Bull Terrier. PK9 is a breeder that provides the following:
The American Pit Bill Terrier (APBT) is an excellent choice for family's looking for a fun and athletic breed that loves to be a part of the family. Like any breed, proper training and good socializing are key ingredients to fostering the best a breed can offer. The natural tendencies of the APBTs means that proper training goes even farther than other breeds, i.e. give them love and attention and they will give it back 10-fold.
"APBTs make excellent family companions and have always been noted for their love of children." - United Kennel Club
The United Kennel Club gives this description of the characteristic of the American Pit Bull dog: "The essential characteristics of the American Pit Bull Terrier are strength, confidence, and zest for life. This breed is eager to please and brimming over with enthusiasm. APBTs make excellent family companions and have always been noted for their love of children. Because most APBTs exhibit some level of [inter]dog aggression and because of its powerful physique, the APBT requires an owner who will carefully socialize and obedience train the dog. The breed's natural agility makes it one of the most capable canine climbers so good fencing is a must for this breed. Aggressive behavior toward humans is uncharacteristic of the breed and highly undesirable. This breed does very well in performance events because of its high level of intelligence and its willingness to work."
In a peer-reviewed literature review of 66 dog-bite risk studies, the American Veterinary Medical Association determined that "breed is a poor sole predictor of dog bites. Controlled studies reveal no increased risk for the group blamed most often for dog bites, ‘pit bull–type’ dogs. Accordingly, targeting this breed or any other as a basis for dog-bite prevention is unfounded." As stated by the National Animal Control Association: "Dangerous and/or vicious animals should be labeled as such as a result of their actions or behavior and not because of their breed."
All pups from our breeding facility come with papers certifying the bloodlines and purity.
The answer is yes, but there is an important distinction worth noting. Pit Bulls have too much personality for a "one purpose" existence. They are great family security because of their loyalty, athleticism and intelligence. They train very well for protection.
Well, the first part is the most important, meaning you love the breed! The best owners are the ones that care the most about them. With such a rich history, great looks, loving and fun personality, unfailing loyalty, unrivaled athleticism, trustworthiness and protection, we highly recommend them for individuals and families. Every breed requires proper training and care, and must NEVER be mistreated. If you can provide the right home for our pups, we'd love to be your breeder.
